Zoom introduces an AI-powered office suite, says AI avatars for meetings arrive this month

Zoom has officially announced the upcoming availability of its AI-powered avatars, designed to represent users during online meetings. This innovative feature, set to launch later this month, comes alongside a suite of new tools and services aimed at boosting productivity. Among the exciting offerings are the company's own AI Docs, Slides, and Sheets applications, an AI agent builder tailored for non-technical users, and a voice translation tool for meetings. These AI-enhanced productivity applications are expected to enter preview mode in the spring. The AI avatars, which were first introduced last year, are highly realistic and capable of mimicking users' appearances, facial expressions, and even subtle movements of the lips and eyes. Created to assist users when they're not camera-ready, these avatars will function in both live online meetings and the company's asynchronous video messaging platform. To further enhance meeting security, Zoom is integrating deepfake detection technology that will notify participants of any potential audio or video impersonations. The new suite of AI-powered office applications will allow users to generate document drafts, data-driven spreadsheets, and engaging presentations based on meeting transcripts and data from various sources. Additionally, Zoom's AI Companion 3.0 is making its way to the desktop app, having first appeared on the web in September. The company reported a significant increase in the monthly active users of the AI Companion, which has more than tripled year-over-year in Q4 FY 2026. Zoom's employee communication app, Workvivo, will also feature the AI assistant, which can interface with popular services like Slack, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Gmail, Outlook, Asana, and Jira, allowing users to pose questions across multiple knowledge bases. In the competitive landscape of AI-first office software, Zoom is not alone; established players like Canva and emerging startups such as Context are also working on similar solutions. Furthermore, Salesforce-owned Slack has been enhancing its team communication tools with additional AI features. To meet the rising demand for personalized workflows, users will now have the ability to create custom agents using natural language prompts that can operate across different platforms. After setting up these agents, users can easily call on them in chat to complete tasks. For developers, Zoom is providing access to its speech, vision, and language intelligence APIs, which can be deployed either on-premises or in the cloud. The company is also revamping its chat experience by leveraging AI to highlight key insights and summarize discussions. In a bid to ensure a seamless user experience, Zoom plans to unify the design across its desktop, mobile, and web platforms, making it easier for users to access AI tools such as notes, meeting questions, and transcriptions.
