In a significant revelation, Sridhar Vembu, the founder of Zoho, highlighted the company’s impressive 25-year journey in China, where it currently employs over 300 individuals across various offices. This milestone is part of Zoho's strategic effort to expand its market presence in the region, showcasing a commitment to understanding local customer needs. Vembu shared insights on the platform X (formerly Twitter), emphasizing that Zoho has successfully increased its market share by investing in software localization tailored to Chinese consumers. The company operates two data centers in China, dedicated to hosting customer data, which underscores its dedication to complying with local regulations and ensuring data security. The comments were made in response to discussions about Zoho's expanding footprint in China amidst competition from both local software providers and global giants like Microsoft and Salesforce. Zoho primarily operates in the region through ManageEngine, its enterprise IT management division, which has successfully carved out a significant niche by focusing on localized products and regional partnerships. According to Mathivanan Venkatachalam, Vice President at ManageEngine, the company is heavily investing in personnel, infrastructure, and marketing specifically tailored for the Chinese market. Notably, Zoho plans to allocate over 100 million yuan (approximately $14.5 million) towards its operations in China by 2026, focusing on data centers, hardware deployment, and bolstering local research and development. Despite the challenges posed by stringent regulatory environments and intense competition, Zoho has established a robust presence in China, serving thousands of clients, including prominent technology firms like CATL and DJI. This success story reflects the company's strategic approach to localization, which has set it apart from many international software firms. Founded in India, Zoho has become one of the country’s leading Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) companies, offering an extensive range of applications across various sectors. As India’s technology industry increasingly looks to expand beyond Western markets, Zoho’s experience in China serves as an inspiring example of how Indian tech firms can thrive in demanding global markets through sustained localization and investment.
