As the year comes to a close, platforms are unveiling their annual recaps, allowing users to reflect on their favorite content. YouTube has joined the trend, announcing a new feature that showcases the most-watched videos from its main service. The YouTube Recap introduces up to 12 customized cards for users, highlighting their top channels and interests, along with an analysis of how their viewing habits have evolved over time. In a fun twist, users will receive a personality type based on their viewing preferences. For example, those who enjoy educational content will be labeled as "Skill Builders," while fans of uplifting videos will be categorized as "Sunshiners." Other personality types include "Trailblazers," "Wonder Seekers," "Connectors," and "Dreamers." Additionally, users can view their favorite artists and songs of the year, with a more in-depth analysis available through the YouTube Music app, which has also rolled out its annual recap feature. Starting today, North American users can access their Recap directly on the YouTube homepage or within the “You” tab, with an international rollout expected later this week. The feature is accessible on both mobile devices and desktop. YouTube stated that this new feature was developed in response to user requests and followed extensive testing with over 50 concepts before finalizing the design. In conjunction with the Recap launch, YouTube revealed trend charts featuring the top creators, podcasts, and songs of the year. MrBeast has once again claimed the title of top creator for the sixth consecutive year, while "The Joe Rogan Experience" topped the podcast category. The hit song “Die with a Smile” by Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga also earned the number one spot. YouTube Recap’s launch coincides with similar features from Apple Music and Amazon Music, as Spotify prepares to unveil its highly anticipated Wrapped feature, indicating a competitive year-end for content platforms.
