YouTube has officially launched its innovative 'Hype' feature, aimed at helping smaller creators gain visibility and recognition. This exciting tool, introduced during the 2024 Made on YouTube event, is now accessible worldwide, allowing fans to support their favorite content creators directly. The 'Hype' button, conveniently located beneath the traditional 'like' option, is available for videos from creators with fewer than 500,000 subscribers. Currently, this feature has been rolled out in 39 countries, including major markets like the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, and India. Viewers are empowered to hype up to three videos each week for their preferred creators, which contributes points to the videos and enhances their visibility on a newly established ranked leaderboard. This leaderboard can be found within YouTube's Explore menu. To ensure equitable support, YouTube has designed the system to provide greater advantages to creators with smaller followings, meaning they will receive a more significant boost in visibility when fans hype their content. Videos that benefit from this fan-driven boost will display a 'hyped' badge, allowing users to filter their Home feed to see only these highlighted videos. Additionally, fans who contribute to hyping a video will receive notifications when their supported content approaches the leaderboard. Dedicated supporters can also earn a 'hype star' badge each month as a testament to their engagement. YouTube has stated that the 'Hype' feature was developed in response to passionate fans wanting to play a role in their favorite creators' success stories. Furthermore, this initiative is poised to open up new revenue opportunities for YouTube, as plans are in place to allow fans to purchase additional 'hypes' to further amplify their favorite videos. Looking ahead, YouTube is also working on specific hype leaderboards tailored to particular interests, such as gaming and fashion, and is exploring ways for fans to share their support after hyping a video. Creators can monitor their hypes and points through the YouTube Studio mobile app, where they will find new analytics insights related to this feature in their weekly reports.
