YouTube's short-form videos, typically designed for mobile viewing, are making waves on larger screens as well. Recent statistics reveal that viewers are streaming over 2 billion hours of YouTube Shorts—clips lasting up to three minutes—each month on their televisions. This shift is surprising, yet the numbers speak for themselves. Kurt Wilms, Senior Director of Product Management for YouTube on TV, noted, "The living room is YouTube’s fastest-growing screen, and the Shorts experience is further helping connect viewers with the world’s most active creator community from the comfort of their couch." He emphasized a growing trend: audiences are increasingly inclined to enjoy their favorite content, whether long-form videos, podcasts, or Shorts, on the larger screen at home. In the United States alone, viewers are consuming over 200 million hours of YouTube content daily. YouTube has cleverly integrated Shorts into search results for TV users, meaning that even if viewers didn't plan on watching a short clip, they may stumble upon and enjoy one anyway. Additionally, Google TV has introduced a new feature—a “Short videos for you” row—aimed at enhancing viewer engagement and boosting watch time. To optimize the viewing experience for larger displays, YouTube has revamped its interface to show comments alongside videos, making it easier for audiences to interact. Sarah Ali, VP of Product Management for YouTube Shorts, highlighted this innovation: "By tailoring Shorts for the big screen, we unlocked a more immersive way for fans to engage with their favorite content while also creating a massive new stage for creators to reach global audiences and scale their businesses." Interestingly, this trend extends beyond Shorts to podcast consumption, which has traditionally been an audio-centric medium. Streaming platforms are increasingly investing in video podcasts, envisioning them as the next daytime talk show format—easy to watch while multitasking. YouTube reported that viewers consumed over 700 million hours of podcasts monthly on living room devices in 2025, a significant increase from 400 million in 2024. Netflix is also getting in on the action, securing exclusive video rights to various shows through partnerships with iHeartMedia and others.
