Google locks YouTube Music lyrics behind paywall

In a significant shift, Google is tightening its grip on YouTube Music, imposing new restrictions on free users regarding access to song lyrics. Previously available to everyone, lyrics will now be limited for those without a premium subscription. As part of an ongoing trial, the service is rolling out a paywall that curtails free access to lyrics, allowing users to view them only a handful of times before incurring charges. Reports have surged from users indicating that they can only access lyrics a limited number of times. When attempting to view lyrics within the mobile app, free users are met with a notice stating their remaining views. Currently, it appears they are allotted five free lyric views, which raises questions about whether this quota resets each month. Despite numerous inquiries, Google has yet to provide an official confirmation regarding this change or its implications for the Premium subscription. As of now, there is no mention of lyric access as a benefit of the paid tier on Google’s support documentation.
