YouTube Premium and YouTube Music are getting more expensive

YouTube has confirmed a hike in subscription fees for its Premium and Music services in the United States, as reported on Friday. The individual plan for YouTube Premium will rise from $13.99 to $15.99 per month, while the family plan will increase from $22.99 to $26.99 per month. Additionally, YouTube Premium Lite, which provides ad-free viewing of most content excluding music videos, will see its price go up from $7.99 to $8.99 monthly. In terms of YouTube Music, the individual plan will shift from $10.99 to $11.99 per month, with the family plan moving from $16.99 to $18.99. These adjustments will affect both existing and new subscribers, with current users set to receive an email notification from YouTube at least 30 days prior to the new pricing taking effect. A YouTube spokesperson explained, "We’re updating the price for YouTube Premium plans in the US for the first time since 2023 to continue delivering a high-quality experience that supports creators and artists on YouTube. This change allows us to maintain the features our members value most: ad-free viewing, background play, and a massive library of over 300 million tracks on YouTube Music." YouTube continues to offer various plans, catering to a range of subscriber preferences. The last increase for YouTube Premium occurred in July 2023, when the price rose from $11.99 to $13.99, and YouTube Music saw an increase from $9.99 to $10.99. As of March 2025, YouTube reported a subscriber base of 125 million across both YouTube Music and YouTube Premium, an increase from 100 million in 2024. This price adjustment comes amidst a trend of similar increases by other streaming services, including Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, which raised their prices recently, while Spotify did so earlier this year. Other platforms like HBO Max, Peacock, and Disney+/Hulu also implemented price hikes last year.
