It took two years, but Google released a YouTube app on Vision Pro

After two years of anticipation, Google has finally introduced an official YouTube app for Apple’s Vision Pro mixed reality headset. The app’s arrival comes in response to widespread user dissatisfaction following the device’s launch in February 2024, which highlighted the absence of a dedicated YouTube application, particularly given the platform's extensive collection of VR and 360-degree content. The newly released YouTube app is not merely a repackaged version of its iPad counterpart. Instead, it features a spatial layout designed specifically for the Vision Pro, enhancing the immersive experience. Users can explore 3D videos and enjoy an array of 360- and 180-degree content. According to the app’s Store listing, users have access to “every video on YouTube,” including a unique interface for Shorts, and can experience a full signed-in functionality that tracks their watch history and preferences. When the Vision Pro first hit the market, many users expressed their frustrations to YouTube regarding the lack of an app, which led to temporary solutions through the web interface. Although this worked reasonably well for standard 2D videos, it fell short of delivering the optimal experience users craved. Following these complaints, Google assured users that a Vision Pro app was in development. Despite the lengthy wait, the app has finally arrived, marking a significant milestone for both Google and Vision Pro users. While the focus now shifts to what’s next—many are eager to see if Netflix will follow suit—there’s no indication yet that the streaming giant has any plans to create a dedicated app for the headset.
