A recent survey conducted by Deloitte illustrates that India's Gen Z and millennial workforce is rapidly adapting to artificial intelligence, demonstrating a confidence level that surpasses their international peers. As AI becomes increasingly integral to the professional landscape, the survey revealed that an impressive 85% of Gen Z participants and 91% of millennials in India feel assured in their ability to leverage AI in their work, significantly exceeding global averages. Deepti Sagar, Chief People and Experience Officer at Deloitte India, emphasized the critical role of generative AI and its applications across various business sectors. She noted that empowering employees to integrate their human insights with AI will enable them to maintain a competitive edge. Sagar further advocated for the implementation of specialized and immersive AI upskilling programs tailored to different job roles, stating, "A comprehensive AI training program is essential to help everyone cultivate their unique generative AI skill sets, whether for general problem-solving or developing market strategies." The survey indicates that AI's influence among young professionals in India extends beyond simple productivity tasks, evolving into a broader support system within the workplace. Over 90% of respondents from both Gen Z and millennial groups reported using AI for learning and development purposes. Additionally, many rely on AI for career guidance and to alleviate workplace stress. A striking 93-95% of these young workers acknowledged the regular use of AI at work, with a similar percentage recognizing its positive impact on both their professional and personal lives. The demand for AI training is evident, with around 32% of Gen Z and 35% of millennials having already participated in AI training programs. Furthermore, 54% of Gen Z and 60% of millennials expressed a desire for additional AI upskilling opportunities. However, the survey also highlighted a disparity, as Gen Z workers reported more challenges in integrating AI tools into their workflows, with 35% experiencing difficulties compared to 25% of millennials. Despite their enthusiasm for technology, financial stress looms large over India's younger workforce. The survey found that 54% of Gen Z and 44% of millennials have postponed significant life decisions due to financial constraints. Among Gen Z, 37% reported being unable to afford a home, while 29% expressed feelings of financial insecurity; for millennials, these figures stood at 20% and 18%, respectively. Unemployment emerged as the primary concern for both demographics, with 27% of Gen Z and 34% of millennials citing it as their top worry. Climate change was identified as the second most pressing issue by Gen Z, while millennials expressed concerns over cybersecurity and data protection. The survey also highlighted the increasing significance of purpose-driven work environments. An overwhelming 99% of Gen Z and 98% of millennials stated that a sense of purpose is closely tied to job satisfaction. Furthermore, 48% of Gen Z and 41% of millennials indicated they would decline job offers from companies whose values do not align with their own. Deloitte's findings also revealed that workplace relationships are crucial for employee retention and wellbeing, with 79-80% of respondents considering their colleagues as friends. Those with strong workplace connections reported higher levels of happiness and commitment to their jobs.
