Shraman and Shreyas Kar, two brothers aged 19 and 20, have embarked on an ambitious entrepreneurial journey after leaving Stanford University. They are launching their first venture, Golpo AI, which emerged from their research at Stanford's AI Lab. This innovative company specializes in creating animated explainer videos from various documents and user prompts, catering to a wide range of applications including education, corporate training, marketing, and sales. The Kar brothers' interest in technology began in their childhood when they received an Arduino kit that sparked their creativity. Their passion for building projects continued through middle and high school, where they actively participated in numerous hackathons. While studying computer science at Stanford, they realized the potential of pursuing their own startup after witnessing their peers take the plunge into entrepreneurship. "Seeing that our peers were taking that risk to drop out of Stanford to start their own thing — that really motivated us and gave us permission," shared Shraman Kar, the Chief Technology Officer of Golpo. The name 'Golpo,' which translates to 'stories' in Bengali, reflects the essence of their mission. The company recently secured an impressive $4.1 million in seed funding, led by BNVT Capital, with contributions from Emergence Capital, Y Combinator, and Afore Capital. The funding will be used to expand their team and enhance marketing efforts. As the demand for AI-driven video content surges, Golpo is positioning itself to address a gap in the market. Unlike existing AI video tools that struggle with basic functionalities, Golpo aims to produce longer, practical videos that can serve as interactive lessons for educational institutions or training modules for businesses. Shraman noted, "Existing AI video tools really struggle with even spelling a word correctly, let alone creating a 10-minute end-to-end video explaining how multivariable calculus works." Golpo's rapid growth is evident, with over 14,000 users having generated videos to date. Notable clients include the Garnet Valley School District in Pennsylvania and various departments within EY. The startup generates revenue through subscription plans based on video generation and offers additional features like frame-by-frame editing and interactivity. The future looks bright for Golpo AI as it continues to innovate in the realm of AI-driven video production.
