Xiaomi has stepped further into the automotive sector with the launch of its newest electric SUV, the YU7, under the Xiaomi EV brand. This model, starting at RMB 253,500, signifies an important milestone for the tech company as it aims to blend advanced technology with practical family-oriented design. The YU7 is available in two distinct variants: the 2WD Pro model and the 2WD Max model, each catering to different driving preferences. The Max version is powered by Xiaomi's proprietary HyperEngine V6s, which utilizes a silicon carbide-based powertrain to deliver impressive peak power of 275 kW and a maximum torque of 500 Nm. It boasts an acceleration capability of 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 5.9 seconds. On the other hand, the Pro variant features an 8-layer hairpin motor that produces 220 kW of peak power and 400 Nm of torque. Both configurations are equipped with BYD’s innovative blade battery technology, allowing for an impressive range of over 600 km on a single charge. Additionally, they support fast charging, achieving 80% capacity in just 25 minutes. The YU7 also introduces Xiaomi’s self-developed “Smart Chassis,” featuring CDC adaptive damping, which enhances driving comfort and responsiveness. The vehicle is designed with a low-drag body, achieving a drag coefficient of 0.229Cd, and includes frameless doors alongside an electric tailgate. Inside, the YU7 impresses with Xiaomi’s HyperOS, a 16.1-inch 3K central display, and a 56-inch head-up display. Rear passengers will also benefit from a detachable screen integrated into the seatback, enhancing the overall user experience. A spokesperson for Xiaomi expressed the company's vision, stating, "Our goal is to bring intelligent technology into the daily lives of families, and the YU7 embodies that vision perfectly. We’ve focused on performance, aesthetics, and affordability to ensure this EV truly meets user expectations." With the launch of the YU7, which follows the earlier introduction of the sports-focused SU7 electric sedan, Xiaomi is clearly aiming for mass-market appeal, positioning the YU7 as a versatile solution for urban and intercity travel. Deliveries of the YU7 are set to commence in China soon, although details regarding international availability remain unconfirmed.
