Xiaomi 16 Ultra flagship may launch ahead of schedule: Here's what leak suggests

There are growing indications that Xiaomi is preparing to unveil its next flagship device, the Xiaomi 16 Ultra, sooner than previously expected. Traditionally, Xiaomi releases its Ultra models in the first quarter of the year, but recent rumors suggest that this new device may make its debut by the end of 2025. The speculation was fueled by Lu Weibing, a prominent figure at Xiaomi Group, who shared a post on Weibo hinting at the upcoming smartphone. He described the Xiaomi 16 Ultra as a device that will achieve a "new height of mobile imaging," effectively confirming its development and ongoing collaboration with Leica, the renowned German optics company. Adding weight to the rumors, industry insider Digital Chat Station disclosed information from Chinese sources indicating that the Xiaomi 16 Ultra's launch could be ahead of schedule. It is anticipated that this flagship will be released in China alongside the Xiaomi 16 and Xiaomi 16 Pro models, likely within this year. For reference, Xiaomi launched the 15 Ultra in February 2025, followed by its global reveal at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona a month later. The device was later available in India for ₹1,09,999, featuring 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. Early leaks suggest that the Xiaomi 16 Ultra will come equipped with impressive hardware upgrades. It is expected to feature a 50MP primary camera sensor, along with a 200MP periscope telephoto lens and a 50MP Sony LYT600 sensor, emphasizing Xiaomi’s commitment to high-end photography. The smartphone may also sport a 6.8-inch LTPO display with a 2K resolution and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. On the performance front, it is likely to be powered by Qualcomm's forthcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset. Furthermore, the device is rumored to include a substantial battery capacity ranging from 7,000mAh to 7,500mAh, supporting 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. As the anticipated launch date approaches, more details are expected to surface, especially if Xiaomi is indeed planning to accelerate its rollout timeline.
