The social media platform X has begun the global rollout of two innovative features: automatic translation of posts and an advanced photo editing tool. Both enhancements are powered by xAI’s Grok models, designed to elevate the user experience within the app. On Tuesday, Nikita Bier, X’s head of product, announced that the automatic translation feature is now available worldwide. Users can easily manage their translation preferences by tapping the gear icon on any translated post, allowing them to disable automatic translation for specific languages. This initiative aims to enhance the reach of posts in diverse languages across the platform. In addition to translation, X is launching a new image editor for its iOS application. This update introduces various creative tools, including drawing and text capabilities, along with a blur function to obscure sensitive details such as faces or personal identification numbers in images. Furthermore, users can now interact with Grok to edit images using natural language commands. For example, a user can request, "transform this photo into a painting displayed in a museum," and Grok will generate the requested artwork. The company has announced plans to extend these features to the Android version of the app in the near future. Earlier this year, Elon Musk faced significant backlash for allowing users to create explicit edits of others' images without consent, leading to a restriction of the image generation feature to paying subscribers. It remains uncertain whether the new AI-powered editing capabilities will be similarly limited. Other major companies like Google and Adobe have also developed AI-enhanced tools that enable users to specify image modifications through descriptive prompts.
