
The social media platform X, owned by Elon Musk and previously known as Twitter, experienced a significant outage on Tuesday evening. This disruption impacted thousands of users globally, as reported by the outage-monitoring site Downdetector. The issues began surfacing around 7:30 PM on January 13, with user complaints peaking at approximately 8:15 PM. Many users reported difficulties accessing both the app and the website, primarily attributing the problems to server-related issues. At the height of the outage, Downdetector recorded over 28,000 incident reports from users around the globe. Among those affected, around 2,200 complaints originated from India, while the United Kingdom saw more than 7,000 users reporting problems. Additionally, over 2,700 complaints came in from Canada, according to a report from Reuters. The data from Downdetector indicated that nearly 59% of users faced challenges with the app, 25% encountered website issues, and about 16% experienced server connection failures. Despite the widespread disruption, X has yet to provide any official statement regarding the cause of the outage. This incident marks another chapter in a series of technical difficulties that the platform has faced, following similar widespread outages in November and October, which were linked to Cloudflare issues, as well as disruptions in July and August. The recurring nature of these outages raises concerns about the platform's reliability for its users.
