X cracks down on creators who steal content

X is intensifying its efforts to combat content theft within its creator revenue-sharing program. The platform aims to address the frequent issue of users soliciting engagement and appropriating others' content for personal gain. Viral content often makes its rounds on platforms like X, where it can garner likes, followers, and even monetary rewards. Other social media giants, including Instagram, Facebook, and Reddit, have faced similar challenges and have introduced various technical solutions to mitigate this behavior. These measures typically involve tools that can identify reposted content lacking proper credit. In response, X has upgraded its capabilities with a new version of the Grok AI model, which can now detect duplicated content at three times the rate of its predecessor. The platform also encourages creators to utilize its built-in video editing tools, making it less appealing to resort to stealing content. Additionally, any attempts to disguise stolen material, such as adding watermarks or edits, will redirect monetized impressions back to the original content creators. During a recent cycle, X identified 1.5 million instances of content theft, although the timeframe for this detection was not disclosed. As a result of the new measures, over $1 million in creator payouts will be redistributed to the original creators affected by theft. To tackle the issue of bots facilitating these problems, X is also accelerating the suspension of such accounts. In April, the platform reported identifying and suspending 208 bots every minute, a figure that continues to rise. Users found to repeatedly attempt to bypass the new policies will face removal from the creator program. This includes accounts engaging in practices like soliciting follows or engagement, with a three-strike rule in place for such violations. Notably, even prominent creators have faced scrutiny for using financial incentives to boost engagement on their content.
