Wipro expands South Korea presence, launches innovation lab in Seoul

On March 23, Wipro announced a significant expansion of its operations in South Korea, which includes a new office in Seoul and the establishment of an innovation lab. This initiative aims to address the rising demand for AI-driven transformation in the region. The new lab will be part of the Wipro Innovation Network (WIN) and will focus on collaborative innovation with local clients across various sectors such as technology, automotive, and industrial manufacturing. Vinay Firake, CEO of the APMEA Strategic Market Unit at Wipro, emphasized the strategic importance of South Korea, stating, "This market is not just a growth opportunity for us, but also a vital center for global innovation. Our expanded presence underscores our long-term commitment to the region." He highlighted the company's goal to enhance local capabilities and integrate South Korea more deeply into Wipro's global innovation and delivery network, thereby helping enterprises achieve tangible business results. The Seoul Innovation Lab is designed to be a collaborative space for clients and partners, fostering co-creation and rapid experimentation. It will prominently feature Wipro Intelligence™, a suite of AI-driven platforms and solutions tailored for enterprise applications. Key focus areas for the lab will include intelligent product engineering, software-defined vehicles, smart manufacturing, supply chain optimization, and AI-enhanced operations. Despite a slight dip in share prices, Wipro remains optimistic about its investment in South Korea, which has evolved into a crucial global innovation hub, especially in sectors like semiconductors, advanced technology, and automotive engineering. Currently, the company employs several hundred professionals in South Korea and is committed to further investing in local talent. This expansion follows Wipro's recent acquisition of the Digital Transformation Solutions (DTS) business unit from Harman, a Samsung subsidiary, which was finalized last year. This acquisition brought over 5,000 professionals across various regions, including South Korea, into Wipro, thereby strengthening its engineering and digital transformation capabilities. With the opening of the Seoul lab, Wipro now operates nine innovation labs worldwide, with five located in the APMEA region.
