Wipro, a prominent player in the IT service sector, has announced a significant update to its hybrid work policy. According to reports by The Economic Times, the company is now mandating that employees spend at least six hours in the office. Failure to meet this requirement may result in deductions from their leave balance. Under the revised policy, Wipro employees are still expected to adhere to a three-day in-office schedule each week. However, the new rule emphasizes a minimum of six hours of office attendance, which can be complemented by additional work from home to fulfill the standard nine-and-a-half-hour workday. The company communicated these changes through an internal email, highlighting that the intention behind the rule is to enhance collaboration among teams and ensure completion of work hours. Notably, if employees do not meet the six-hour requirement on designated days, they risk having half a day's leave deducted. Repeated failures to comply could lead to further deductions from their leave balances. This move underscores a broader trend among IT companies, including Infosys, HCLTech, and Accenture, which are implementing stricter regulations surrounding hybrid and office work. While the flexibility of remote work remains, there is a clear shift towards greater accountability and monitoring of in-office attendance.
