Wing, the drone delivery service owned by Alphabet, is set to broaden its reach by launching operations in seven additional U.S. cities through its collaboration with Walmart. This ambitious expansion aims to establish a drone delivery network across over 270 Walmart locations by next year. The newly included markets are Memphis, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Salt Lake City. This move will extend Wing and Walmart's total service area to nearly 20 cities across the United States. Currently, Wing is already delivering Walmart products in regions such as Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Greater Houston. In addition to these cities, Wing has plans to roll out its services in Orlando, Tampa, Charlotte, St. Louis, Cincinnati, Los Angeles, and Miami. Walmart has been exploring drone delivery options for several years, and following successful pilots in Dallas-Fort Worth and Atlanta, the retail giant has decided to expand its commitment significantly. Earlier this year, the two companies announced an initiative to introduce drone delivery to an additional 150 Walmart stores. The impact of this service on consumers is notable, with Wing reporting over 1 million commercial deliveries executed through its partnership with Walmart. Heather Rivera, Wing’s Chief Business Officer, shared insights with TechCrunch in January, revealing that the top 25% of their customers utilize the service up to three times a week. "Our collaboration with Walmart has proven that drone delivery is more than just a novelty; it's a reliable service that many customers depend on multiple times each week," Rivera stated in the announcement regarding the new market expansions.
