Revamped Task Manager, second-monitor notifications coming soon to Windows 11

Microsoft continues to focus on enhancing Windows 11 with new AI-driven features, but the company is also committed to refining existing functionalities for traditional PC users. Recent updates in the Windows Insider program have introduced significant adjustments aimed at power users. One of the key changes is the revamped functionality of the Taskbar on secondary monitors. Users can now access the calendar and Notification Center from any monitor, not just the primary one. This improvement is designed to streamline user experience for those who rely on multiple displays. In addition, Microsoft is addressing inconsistencies in how CPU usage is reported within the Task Manager. Previously, the Processes tab employed a calculation method that did not take into account the total number of CPU cores, which led to misleading readings. For instance, it could indicate that a process was utilizing '100 percent' of the CPU, even if it was only utilizing a single core. Conversely, the Performance and Users tabs had a more accurate method of calculation that factored in all available cores. The upcoming Task Manager update promises to standardize CPU workload displays across all tabs, aligning the calculations with industry norms and third-party tools. This change aims to provide users with a unified understanding of CPU usage, making it easier to analyze resource consumption across different applications. Microsoft has been trialing this change since February, temporarily pausing its rollout to address issues. The latest builds indicate that the feature is back on track for a broader release. For those who prefer the previous CPU metrics, a new 'CPU Utility' column, which is disabled by default, can be added to the Details tab for reference.
