In an era where voice recognition technology continues to improve, Willow is making waves with its newly launched iOS app that allows users to type using their voice across all applications. This tool enhances dictation capabilities, offering features similar to Wispr Flow but with a significant advantage: a full keyboard for easy editing. The Willow app supports over 100 languages and allows users to customize vocabulary and writing styles tailored to various contexts, such as work correspondence or messaging. Users can effortlessly switch between voice input and traditional typing without the need to change keyboards, making it a versatile tool for everyone. Founded by Allan Guo and Lawrence Liu, Willow originated from a healthcare software concept during their time at Stanford. However, after recognizing the saturation in AI notetaking solutions, Guo pivoted towards developing a voice AI tool aimed at enhancing productivity for knowledge workers. "Doctors found voice AI scribes valuable for documenting patient conversations, which inspired us to create something more user-friendly for broader applications," Guo explained during a recent interview. Since its launch, Willow has seen impressive growth, boasting a 50% increase in users month over month. The startup has attracted enterprise clients including Uber and Heidi Health, who utilize its features for custom team vocabularies. Willow has successfully secured $4.5 million in funding from various investors, showcasing strong confidence in its future. Investors like Instacart co-founder Max Mullen have praised Willow's vision, believing that voice-led interfaces will revolutionize user interaction with technology. Mullen noted that Willow's dictation app minimizes the need for edits compared to conventional systems, further enhancing user experience. Looking ahead, Willow plans to expand its platform compatibility to Windows and Android, while also focusing on personalization to streamline the dictation process and minimize post-editing efforts.
