On Thursday, Google Cloud and several other cloud-based services experienced significant global outages, leaving many users frustrated. Reports flooded social media as individuals noted disruptions across multiple major internet platforms due to issues with Google’s cloud infrastructure. According to a status update from Google Cloud, problems began at 10:51 a.m. PT, affecting various products. "We are experiencing service issues with multiple GCP products," the status page confirmed. By around 11:30 a.m. PT, Downdetector reported over 13,000 incidents related to Google Cloud alone, with thousands more for Amazon Web Services. The outages impacted 13 different cloud services managed by Google, affecting users in regions such as the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Various online services, including Amazon's Twitch, CoreWeave's Weights and Biases, Elastic, GitLab, LangChain, Microsoft's GitHub, Replit, and Intuit's Mailchimp, were also reported to be experiencing issues. Later in the day, Cloudflare, a key provider of web security and content distribution, acknowledged problems on its status page, indicating that several services were suffering from intermittent failures. This announcement coincided with a 6% drop in Cloudflare’s stock price. "We are continuing to investigate this and will update this list as we assess the impact on a per-service level," their page stated. Additionally, Google Trends showed a noticeable spike in searches for "Firebase," a popular Google platform for web and mobile app development. Shopify, a major customer of Google Cloud, also acknowledged an issue affecting several of its services in a post on X. As of now, representatives from Google, AWS, and Cloudflare have not responded to requests for comments regarding the outages.
