A significant disruption in Amazon Web Services (AWS) has caused numerous popular platforms, including Perplexity, Canva, and Microsoft 365, to experience substantial downtime. Reports indicate that over 1,100 users in India and more than 5,000 in the United States have logged issues on Downdetector, highlighting the widespread impact of this outage. The majority of complaints are centered around the US-EAST-1 region, with 16% of reports originating from both US-WEST-1 and US-WEST-2. AWS has acknowledged the problem through their status page, stating, "We can confirm significant error rates for requests made to the DynamoDB endpoint in the US-EAST-1 Region. This issue also affects other AWS services in the same region. Customers may find it challenging to create or update Support Cases during this outage. Our engineers are actively engaged in resolving the issue and understanding its root cause." Perplexity's CEO, Aravind Srinivas, has also confirmed that their AI platform is currently down due to the AWS service disruption. He addressed the situation on social media, stating, "Perplexity is down right now. The root cause is an AWS issue. We’re working on resolving it." The outage has impacted a wide array of services and platforms, including: - Amazon (and its various services) - Canva - Fortnite - Duolingo - Microsoft 365 - Slack - Zoom - And many more. As the situation develops, users are advised to remain patient as AWS works to rectify the issues affecting these essential services.
