I used the OnePlus Pad 3 as my laptop for 90 days and there is no switching back

For many Indians, Android is second nature, far more familiar than Windows or MacOS. This has led me to seek a suitable replacement for my Windows laptop, and the OnePlus Pad 3 has finally stepped up to the challenge. After 90 days of using this tablet as my primary device, I've discovered its capabilities and limitations in real-world scenarios. The OnePlus Pad 3 serves well for tasks like writing, streaming movies, and web browsing, making it an ideal choice for users who don’t require gaming or advanced video editing features. Its impressive 13.2-inch 3.4K 144Hz display, with 900 nits of peak brightness and a 540Hz touch sampling rate, provides ample screen space compared to its predecessor's 12.1-inch display. While it lacks an OLED panel, the IPS display is still highly functional for most activities, including gaming and video consumption. Weight and portability are on my side as well; the Pad 3 is remarkably slim at just 5.97mm and weighs 675g. OnePlus offers a folio case, keyboard, and stylus separately, but I found the magnets on the case could be stronger, as I've experienced the device slipping during angle adjustments. The keyboard, while functional, lacks the tactile feedback of a traditional laptop keyboard and doesn't have a backlight, which can be a drawback for nighttime use. However, these issues become less significant the longer I use the device. The standout features that make the OnePlus Pad 3 a worthy laptop alternative are its exceptional battery life and seamless software integration. With a 12,140mAh battery and 80W SuperVOOC fast charging, the Pad 3 often lasts more than a day and a half on a typical workload—much longer than many Windows laptops, which typically offer 4-5 hours on similar tasks. While Snapdragon-powered devices boast impressive battery longevity, they often don't match the efficiency of this tablet. OnePlus’ OxygenOS is known for its fluidity, and the experience is smooth overall, though I had hoped for more features enhancing interconnectivity. If you also own a OnePlus smartphone, the synergy between the two devices is beneficial; you can easily relay apps, transfer files, and sync notifications. A particularly valuable feature for frequent travelers is the ability to use your phone’s mobile data without needing to enable a hotspot. The keyboard also features an NFC chip for quick pairing with other OnePlus and Oppo devices, and there are various shortcuts that mimic Windows functionality, including a split-screen capability called Open Canvas, which effectively utilizes the available screen space. This allows me to manage multiple apps simultaneously, enhancing productivity. While AI features like AI Translation and AI Notes are included, they haven't significantly impacted my workflow, but I remain hopeful for future updates that will enhance the tablet's capabilities. My experience with the Pad 3 has been largely positive, although there have been some typical Android-related frustrations, such as browser limitations and lack of customization options compared to Windows. Despite these drawbacks, the OnePlus Pad 3 stands out in the Android tablet market. It combines a high-quality display, long battery life, robust software, and powerful processing capabilities at an attractive price point. For anyone considering an Android tablet around the ₹40,000 range, the OnePlus Pad 3 is undoubtedly worth exploring.
