The fitness tracking company Whoop has announced an exciting new feature for its users in the United States: on-demand access to licensed clinicians directly through its app. This addition is set to enhance the user experience by integrating real-time medical guidance with continuous biometric data, allowing users to receive personalized health insights like never before. This innovative service is part of a broader rollout of health and AI-driven features aimed at users worldwide. While many new functionalities will be included in the standard membership, the live video consultation will incur an additional fee. Specific pricing details are expected to be revealed when this feature launches this summer. Ed Baker, Whoop's chief product officer, emphasized the company's commitment to delivering value to its members. "We’re always asking how we can deliver more value to our members, and these upcoming features are some of the most meaningful we've ever built," he stated in a recent press release. With over 2.5 million users globally, Whoop recently secured $575 million in funding, elevating its valuation to an impressive $10.1 billion. The medical consultation will start with a thorough assessment of data collected from the Whoop device, along with any available blood work and medical history, according to the company's announcement. It's important to note that the video consultations are designed to supplement existing healthcare plans rather than replace primary care providers or emergency services. A spokesperson for Whoop clarified that the service's capabilities regarding prescriptions remain unspecified. "As our data and coaching insights have evolved, we’re excited to offer our members a deeper understanding of their overall health," said Whoop CEO Will Ahmed. Additionally, Whoop is teaming up with HealthEx, a health records management service, allowing users to track their diagnoses, medications, and procedures within the app. This partnership will also provide AI-powered coaching and proactive reminders to enhance user health management. This announcement follows a warning issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration regarding Whoop's Blood Pressure Insights feature, which was deemed to be marketing an unauthorized medical device. However, new FDA guidelines now permit optical sensing blood pressure measurements in wellness devices, provided they refrain from making medical-grade claims.
