Whoop opens blood-testing service to what it says is a 350,000-person waitlist

On Tuesday, Whoop, the fitness band manufacturer, officially launched its Whoop Advanced Labs service, a move that has attracted significant attention with a staggering 350,000 people on the waiting list, according to a report from TechCrunch. Whoop Advanced Labs provides a range of health-screening blood tests in collaboration with Quest Diagnostics, assessing various health markers including calcium levels and white blood cell counts. This service is designed to complement the continuous monitoring capabilities of the Whoop band, which tracks activity, sleep quality, respiratory rate, and blood pressure. By integrating these insights, users receive tailored wellness recommendations to enhance their health journeys. Pricing for the testing service is set at $199 for a single annual test, $349 for two tests, or $599 for four within a year. Additionally, the Whoop device itself requires a membership fee that ranges between $200 and $350 annually, depending on the features of the wearable strap. Whoop is part of a rising trend of startups that provide wellness solutions through affordable, out-of-pocket blood testing services on a subscription basis. Other notable competitors in this space include Dr. Mark Hyman’s Function Health, which offers tests at three-month intervals for $500 a year, and Fountain Life, a longevity-focused startup backed by notable figures like Tony Robbins and Peter Diamandis, with annual costs exceeding $20,000.
