On Friday, the White House officially joined Bluesky, the social media platform that has gained popularity among progressive users. In their debut post, the White House shared a dynamic sizzle reel featuring a collection of memes, jabs, and notable moments from President Donald Trump's past nine months in office. This post seemed aimed at playfully provoking liberal critics of the Republican president. The inaugural message included references to the administration's executive order regarding the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico, a humorous altered image of Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries dressed in a sombrero and fake mustache, along with a montage of videos and photos highlighting significant events from the early days of Trump’s second term. "What’s up, Bluesky?" the White House greeted in the post. "We thought you might’ve missed some of our greatest hits, so we put this together for you. Can’t wait to spend more quality time together!" Since billionaire Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter in 2022, many dissatisfied users have migrated to Bluesky, which reported a notable increase in new sign-ups toward the end of last year. Although still a smaller platform compared to established giants like X (formerly Twitter), Bluesky is carving out a niche for those seeking a different social media experience. Additionally, on the same day, both the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Homeland Security launched their own accounts on Bluesky, while Vice President JD Vance had previously joined the platform in June. Meanwhile, Trump's preferred social media outlet remains Truth Social, where he holds significant shares through Trump Media & Technology Group.
