WhatsApp has officially introduced a new feature enabling users to translate messages directly within the app, as announced by the Meta-owned platform on Tuesday. This enhancement allows users to easily translate messages written in foreign languages by simply long-pressing the text and selecting the 'Translate' option. Once activated, users can choose their desired languages for translation. This feature is applicable across one-on-one chats, group conversations, and Channel updates. Android users have an added advantage, as they can enable automatic translation for entire chat threads, ensuring all future messages in that thread are translated seamlessly. Importantly, WhatsApp emphasizes that all translations are processed on the user's device, ensuring the privacy and encryption of messages remain intact. In their blog post, WhatsApp stated, "With over 3 billion users across more than 180 countries, we are consistently innovating to keep our users connected, regardless of their location. We recognize that language barriers can hinder communication, which is why we're thrilled to launch message translations to facilitate smoother conversations across different languages." This feature rollout follows closely on the heels of Apple’s introduction of live translation in its Messages app. Starting Tuesday, Android users can translate messages in six languages: English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic. Meanwhile, iPhone users benefit from a broader selection, with support for languages including Arabic, Dutch, English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese. Currently, there is no information available regarding the introduction of message translation for the web or WhatsApp's desktop applications for Windows and Mac.
