During the recent WhatsApp Business Summit held in Mumbai, the messaging platform introduced an array of new tools aimed at empowering businesses to enhance their customer interactions and streamline operations. These updates signify WhatsApp's commitment to serving not only as a consumer app but also as a vital digital resource for businesses and government services throughout India. One of the standout features is the ability for small businesses to accept payments directly through WhatsApp, utilizing QR codes for quick and secure transactions. This innovation is designed to help sellers finalize sales more efficiently. Additionally, WhatsApp is launching in-app calling capabilities that will allow users to connect with customer service representatives or receive calls from larger enterprises. The integration of voice and video calls is expected to benefit sectors such as telehealth and advanced customer support. Meta has also announced that Business AI will be integrated into these calling features, enabling companies to enhance their support systems through virtual assistants. Furthermore, the introduction of Centralised Campaigns in Ads Manager will permit businesses in India to create and manage advertising campaigns across WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram from a single platform. This feature utilizes Meta's AI technology to optimize budget allocation and performance metrics across various placements. The Status tab, which boasts over 1.5 billion daily users, will see the introduction of ad integrations. Major brands, including Maruti Suzuki, Air India, and Flipkart, are already utilizing ads in Status, while well-known creators and channels like Jio Hotstar are promoting their content. These ads will remain distinct from personal chats and inboxes, ensuring a clear separation between promotional material and user interactions. Maruti Suzuki's Executive Director of Marketing, Bhuvan Dheer, expressed confidence in the new tools, stating, "Ads on WhatsApp Status will further help us drive discovery and sales of our products and services." Air India’s Chief Marketing Officer, Sunil Suresh, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the alignment of WhatsApp’s advertising capabilities with their vision for digital transformation. In addition to supporting businesses, WhatsApp is enhancing its role in public service delivery. State governments in Odisha, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu are collaborating with WhatsApp to provide citizen service chatbots. Notably, Andhra Pradesh's 'Mana Mitra' chatbot has already facilitated access to over 700 services in various regional languages, benefiting around 4 million citizens. "Every day, businesses of all sizes are leveraging WhatsApp to deliver faster and more impactful customer experiences. With our latest tools and features, we are confident that businesses will unlock stronger ROI and foster deeper connections with customers," stated Arun Srinivas, Managing Director & Country Head of Meta India. The new functionality also allows small businesses to run both the WhatsApp Business App and Business Platform simultaneously, enabling them to manage automation and high message volumes while keeping up with everyday communications such as group chats and calls.
