iPhone users may soon send WhatsApp texts that vanish after one read

WhatsApp is preparing to launch a new feature that will allow iPhone users to send messages that vanish after being viewed once, mirroring its existing view-once functionality for photos. This exciting development aims to enhance user privacy by ensuring that text messages can be shared securely without the risk of them being saved or forwarded. According to a report from WABetaInfo, the upcoming feature is part of WhatsApp's commitment to bolstering privacy features. While a specific release date has not been announced, the change is highly anticipated among iPhone users. Currently, those who wish to send temporary text messages often resort to workarounds, such as sending screenshots as view-once images. The new functionality would streamline this process, allowing users to send ephemeral text messages directly. To use the feature, users will simply need to long-press the send button after composing their message, which will reveal an option labeled "Send as view once." Once dispatched, the recipient will be able to read the message just one time before it becomes inaccessible. This capability is expected to be available in both individual and group chats, although it might not be applicable in Channels. The introduction of this view-once text feature aligns with WhatsApp’s broader privacy measures, similar to those already in place for view-once media. Messages sent in this manner cannot be copied, saved, forwarded, or shared. Additionally, the app may disable screenshots and screen recordings, further protecting users' sensitive information. This feature could prove invaluable when sharing confidential data like passwords, one-time codes, or personal details. While still under development, beta testing suggests that the rollout for iPhone users could be imminent, promising a new level of privacy in messaging.
