WhatsApp’s most requested feature for iPhone may finally be arriving

Exciting news for iPhone users: WhatsApp is on the brink of introducing a highly anticipated feature that will allow users to manage multiple accounts from a single device. According to recent insights from WABetaInfo, a new update is rolling out through the TestFlight beta program, which includes the capability for handling multiple accounts. Users selected for this update will discover a new section titled "Account List" in the settings menu, alongside a dedicated button near the QR code option. This innovation enables users to add an additional WhatsApp account without the need for a second device or the WhatsApp Business app. While this feature has already been available for Android users since late 2023, iPhone users have been waiting patiently. Now, their wait may soon come to an end. The upcoming functionality promises to allow users to seamlessly switch between different WhatsApp accounts directly from the settings page, eliminating the need to log out of their primary account or restart the app. Each account will maintain its unique chat history, notification preferences, and settings, ensuring a smooth transition between profiles. Furthermore, WhatsApp plans to introduce distinct notification sounds for each account, along with individualized auto-download options. Users will have the flexibility to adjust privacy settings, such as visibility of the last seen status, profile picture, and read receipts for each account. The app will also handle reaction preferences and muted chats separately for each profile. Even messages sent to inactive accounts will be delivered, with clear indicators for which messages are associated with the primary and secondary accounts. Additionally, WhatsApp is working on several shortcuts to enhance the user experience when switching accounts. For example, users can easily switch profiles through the "Account List" or by utilizing a new double-tap gesture within the Settings tab. Security features may also be on the horizon, with the potential for App Lock support for both accounts, allowing users to secure their primary or secondary accounts using Face ID, Touch ID, or a password. Users will have the option to link a new phone number or one that has previously been used with the app, and they can add a companion account by scanning a QR code. This update is set to revolutionize how users interact with WhatsApp, making it more versatile than ever before.
