WhatsApp is gearing up to roll out a new AI-driven feature designed to streamline user interactions and save valuable time. The popular messaging platform is set to harness the power of Meta AI, enabling users to quickly grasp the essence of unread messages without sacrificing the privacy of their conversations. According to insights from WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is in the process of developing a feature that will allow users to obtain detailed summaries of specific conversations. This new functionality, dubbed Quick Recap, aims to enhance the existing message summaries feature by offering a more comprehensive overview of unread messages across selected chats. With Quick Recap, users can avoid the hassle of scrolling through lengthy message threads. Instead, they will receive succinct overviews that capture the key points of discussions, all thanks to Meta AI’s innovative capabilities. Unlike the previous message summaries, which were limited to one chat at a time, this new option will empower users to summarize up to five conversations simultaneously. To utilize this feature, users will simply select the chats they wish to summarize, tap the three dots located in the top-right corner, and click on “Quick Recap.” WhatsApp remains committed to user privacy, employing Meta Private Processing technology to ensure that raw data never leaves its secure enclave in an accessible format. Through encryption and isolated computation, neither WhatsApp nor Meta will have access to the original messages or the generated summaries, thereby protecting the confidentiality of user conversations. Quick Recap is expected to work with both individual and group chats, although conversations that fall under ‘Advanced Chat Privacy’ will be excluded from this summary feature. This respects the preferences of users who have opted out of AI functionalities for specific discussions. WABetaInfo has identified the Quick Recap feature within the beta version 2.25.21.12 of WhatsApp for Android. However, beta testers will not yet have access to this feature as it is still under development. A gradual rollout to beta users is anticipated in upcoming updates, followed by a stable release for Android. At this time, there is no information available regarding the potential arrival of Quick Recap for the WhatsApp iOS app.
