As highlighted by WABetaInfo, the latest beta version of WhatsApp for iOS on TestFlight introduces an option known as "Strict account settings," located under the Privacy > Advanced section. This new feature is designed for users who suspect they might be targets of malicious attacks, allowing them to activate a comprehensive set of extreme protections. According to WhatsApp, enabling this mode will automatically implement various restrictions intended to secure user accounts. Key measures include blocking media and attachments from unknown contacts, limiting incoming calls and messages, and locking specific settings to prevent unauthorized alterations. Importantly, WhatsApp cautions that while this feature aims to enhance safety, it may also lead to diminished quality in calls and messages. Beyond the obvious protections, WABetaInfo also points out that additional privacy settings will be adjusted automatically when this mode is activated. These adjustments involve silencing calls from unknown numbers, restricting group invitations to only recognized contacts, disabling link previews, notifying users of changes to encryption codes, enabling two-step verification, and concealing personal details from unidentified numbers. Although most of these privacy options exist individually within WhatsApp's current settings, the new mode streamlines the process by applying all the necessary protections simultaneously. This could prove particularly advantageous for individuals such as journalists, activists, or public figures who may face greater risks from digital threats.
