VSCO, the popular photo editing and sharing platform, is thrilled to announce the global launch of its iOS camera app, Capture. Initially available only in select regions including Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, the app is now accessible to users worldwide. In addition to the app's launch, VSCO has taken a significant step by acquiring The Freelance Photographer, an organization known for providing both online and offline workshops that enhance skills in photography and videography. Eric Wittman, CEO of VSCO, emphasized the necessity for tailored business education in the photography sector, stating, "There’s a clear gap in the market for business education and industry-specific guidance for emerging photography professionals who are looking to secure sustainable client relationships." Capture, VSCO's first new application in over a decade, is designed to help users take aesthetically pleasing photographs. It boasts more than 50 presets, real-time effects, and manual controls for essential camera functions such as shutter speed and exposure. Additionally, users can capture images in both RAW and ProRAW formats, further enhancing their creative options. The app also offers seamless syncing with VSCO’s cloud service, ensuring that all photos are easily accessible. The Freelance Photographer offers a variety of subscription plans for its courses, starting at $208 per month for basic coaching and going up to $625 per month for extensive access to over 50 tools, multiple courses, and personal mentorship from founder Paul Weaver. This acquisition aligns with VSCO’s mission to support professional photographers, following other initiatives like VSCO Hub, which connects brands with photographers, and VSCO Sites, a platform for photographers to showcase their portfolios. Moreover, in May, VSCO launched VSCO Canvas, a collaborative tool for creating mood boards tailored to various projects.
