VSCO gets AI editing chops, support for RAW files

The popular video editing application, VSCO, is set to elevate its capabilities by introducing a range of innovative AI-powered image editing tools. These enhancements include support for high-resolution RAW files, non-destructive editing options, and advanced content-aware region detection. The newly introduced AI features will be accessible through a dedicated section named "AI Labs." Among the standout offerings is an AI-driven object removal tool, which allows users to select an object in an image and have it replaced seamlessly with a background match. This process utilizes VSCO's sophisticated "intelligent area detection" technology, ensuring that the background is blended effectively without compromising the image's resolution or color accuracy. In contrast to many existing AI removal tools that can leave noticeable artifacts, VSCO asserts that its approach delivers superior precision, making it particularly advantageous for professional photographers. Additionally, another upcoming feature called Upscale aims to enhance image resolution and detail retention without sacrificing composition quality. These advanced AI tools are powered by Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.1 Kontext model and are part of VSCO’s Pro subscription, which is priced at $12.99 per month or $60 annually. Notably, there are no restrictions on the frequency of use for the AI Labs features. Eric Wittman, CEO of VSCO, emphasized the company’s commitment to fostering authentic creative expression among photographers. He stated, "We recognize the significant impact of AI on photography and are dedicated to providing tools that empower our community to achieve creative excellence while honoring the artistry of their work." To remain competitive in the evolving landscape of editing software, VSCO has been expanding its offerings. Recent initiatives include an AI-enhanced whiteboard for collaboration between photographers and clients, as well as a marketplace designed to connect photographers with potential clients. Earlier this year, the launch of Workspace has also helped users manage their bookings and schedules more effectively.
