Volvo is set to introduce its latest electric vehicle, the EX60 SUV, later this month. This new model showcases the latest advancements in electric vehicle design, featuring a structural battery pack and significant use of large castings, reflecting the evolving landscape of automotive technology. As the official unveiling approaches on January 21, details have started to trickle in about this highly anticipated vehicle. A primary focus during the design of the EX60 was to alleviate common concerns among potential electric vehicle buyers, particularly regarding range and charging times. Anders Bell, Volvo’s Chief Technology Officer, emphasized that the new electric architecture aims to tackle these issues directly. "We aim to eliminate range anxiety with class-leading performance in both range and charging speed," Bell stated. The EX60 is expected to achieve a remarkable range of 400 miles (approximately 644 km) from a fully charged battery, according to preliminary assessments based on the EPA testing cycle. Although official EPA figures are still pending, this anticipated range positions the EX60 as a frontrunner in the electric SUV market. In terms of charging capabilities, the EX60 is designed to capitalize on fast charging technology. Utilizing a 400 kW DC fast charger, the vehicle can potentially gain an impressive 168 miles (around 270 km) of range in just 10 minutes. However, specifics regarding the charging duration from 10% to 80% remain undisclosed, leaving enthusiasts eager for more information during the official launch.
