Volvo has officially introduced its new all-electric EX60 in Barcelona, Spain, marking a significant milestone as the first vehicle built on the company's innovative all-EV SPA3 platform. This scalable architecture is set to pave the way for a new lineup of electric vehicles from Volvo. The EX60 offers an impressive driving range of up to 400 miles (643 km) and features faster charging capabilities than any previous Volvo model. This revolutionary electric vehicle represents a complete overhaul in Volvo's car manufacturing process, with enhancements made at every stage of production. A key element of this process is megacasting, which allows molten aluminum to be shaped into a single, lightweight component. Additionally, the EX60 incorporates advanced 800 V charging technology and a unique structural load-bearing battery design that integrates the battery cells directly into the vehicle's floor and walls. Despite the current uncertainty surrounding the electric vehicle market in the United States, many automakers, including Volvo, are committed to advancing their EV projects. Volvo recently launched the compact EX30 at the end of 2023 but has since discontinued it due to changing market conditions and tariffs. Meanwhile, the three-row EX90 continues to be part of the lineup alongside the newly introduced EX60. Pricing for the 2027 EX60 starts at $59,795 for the entry-level P6 Plus model, while the more powerful P10 AWD Ultra variant is priced at $68,745 and offers enhanced performance and range. The company has also announced plans for a P12 model that will deliver even greater power and range. One of the most intriguing features of the EX60 is its moose-proofing capability. In Sweden, moose are a significant traffic hazard, particularly during dawn and dusk. To mitigate the risks posed by these large animals, Volvo conducts rigorous moose tests on all its models using a life-size rubber moose crash test dummy weighing approximately 800 pounds. This ensures that every vehicle is prepared for the unexpected encounter with these massive creatures, highlighting Volvo's commitment to safety.
