Vodafone Idea (Vi) has officially launched its commercial 5G services in Bengaluru, beginning on June 11. This significant expansion marks the addition of India’s tech capital to Vi’s growing 5G network, which already includes major cities like Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Patna, and Chandigarh. The introduction of Vi 5G is designed to provide users with faster data speeds, reduced latency, and improved connectivity for both individual consumers and businesses. This rollout is part of Vi’s ambitious strategy to implement 5G services across all 17 priority circles where it holds spectrum rights, with a target completion date set for August 2025. To accompany the launch, Vi has rolled out a variety of prepaid and postpaid 5G plans. Prepaid options start at ₹299, offering 1GB of data per day for a 28-day period. Higher-tier plans at ₹349 and ₹365 provide 1.5GB and 2GB of daily data, respectively, all under an introductory offer that includes unlimited 5G data. For those looking for a long-term plan, the ₹3,599 option includes 2GB of daily data for an entire year, also with unlimited access to 5G. Postpaid users can choose from Vi Max plans starting at ₹451, with additional options priced at ₹551 and ₹751, offering up to 150GB of monthly data. Notably, Vi is currently the only telecom provider in India to offer unlimited 5G on plans with daily data limits under 2GB. As for device compatibility, Vi 5G services will be available on all smartphones released after January 1, 2020, that support VoLTE. Users are encouraged to check their phone settings for 5G signal availability and to restart their devices to activate the service. Vi has also launched a dedicated microsite to provide comprehensive details about its 5G plans and network features. Anand Dani, Business Head – Karnataka at Vodafone Idea, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, stating, “We’re excited to bring Vi 5G to Bengaluru, a city that stands at the forefront of tech and digital innovation. With our next-gen 5G and enhanced 4G network, we aim to deliver an improved experience to our users.” In a strategic move towards sustainability, Vi has partnered with Samsung to implement energy-efficient infrastructure and AI-driven Self-Organising Networks (SON) to enhance performance while reducing the environmental impact. High-transmit-power, multi-technology radios have also been integrated to further boost efficiency.
