On Wednesday, Verizon experienced significant issues with its wireless services, leaving many customers unable to make calls or access data. According to Downdetector, a platform that monitors user-reported outages, tens of thousands of Verizon users were affected by this disruption. In a statement posted on X, Verizon acknowledged the service problems, stating, "We are aware of an issue impacting wireless voice and data services for some customers. Our engineers are engaged and are working to identify and solve the issue quickly. We understand how important reliable connectivity is and apologize for the inconvenience." The company further assured customers that its engineering teams are actively addressing the situation, emphasizing their commitment to resolving the issue swiftly. The outage peaked around 12:45 PM ET, with Downdetector reporting over 180,000 incidents related to Verizon services. Some users have taken to social media to express their frustrations, noting their phones were stuck in SOS mode or completely lost service. Reports of issues began to rise around noon ET, although they have since shown signs of decline as the day progressed. Interestingly, users also reported problems with AT&T and T-Mobile services, but representatives from both companies confirmed that their networks were functioning normally. T-Mobile stated, "T-Mobile’s network is keeping our customers connected, and we’ve confirmed that our network is operating normally and as expected. However, due to Verizon’s reported outage, our customers may not be able to reach someone with Verizon service at this time." This outage joins a series of notable tech disruptions over the past year, including a major Amazon Web Services incident that impacted a vast portion of the internet last October. Additionally, a widespread outage at AT&T in 2024 led to a Federal Communications Commission investigation due to the extensive service interruptions it caused. This story is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
