In a landscape where many startups are grappling to adapt to the AI revolution, Vercel, a decade-old development tool and web hosting platform, is thriving amid the surge of AI-generated applications. At the recent HumanX conference in San Francisco, CEO Guillermo Rauch highlighted the transformative impact of AI, stating, "When I started this company, only tens of millions of people could deploy. Now we’re seeing that everybody in the world can create an app." This remarkable shift toward app creation by non-developers has significantly boosted Vercel's revenue. According to reports, the company’s annual recurring revenue (ARR) soared from $100 million at the beginning of 2024 to an impressive run rate of $340 million by the end of February 2026. With such rapid growth, Rauch was questioned about the company's plans for an IPO. He indicated that Vercel is already functioning with the mindset of a public company, stating, "Vercel is very much a working public company." However, he refrained from providing a specific timeline for the IPO, noting, "There’s no perfect timeline or quarter I can give. The company’s ready and getting more ready for it every day." Although 2026 was anticipated to be a fruitful year for initial public offerings, a sharp downturn in software stocks, driven by concerns over AI's impact, has stalled the IPO market. Aside from notable companies like SpaceX and OpenAI, discussions surrounding public listings have dwindled. Nevertheless, Rauch is openly signaling Vercel’s readiness for the public market, suggesting a potential listing may not be far off. When asked what investors should know about Vercel, he emphasized the expanding total addressable market for infrastructure, stating, "It simply has no ceiling." Vercel is positioning itself as the go-to platform for hosting applications developed by AI agents, which are increasingly taking over the app deployment process. "Agents are very prolific at deploying," Rauch explained, noting that 30% of the applications on Vercel's platform are already generated by these agents. He further elaborated on the advantages of AI in software production, suggesting that it will become easier to generate custom solutions through AI than to rely on existing software. "All of that software… it needs to go somewhere, and we think it’s going to be Vercel," he asserted. Vercel was last valued at $9.3 billion following a $300 million Series F funding round led by Accel in September. The company competes with major players like Cloudflare and Amazon Web Services in the hosting sector, while also providing v0, a tool designed for creating websites and applications.
