I'm the VC who created AI Scott Adams. Here's why I'm continuing the project, despite his family's objections.

In a recent discussion, John Arrow, the venture capitalist behind the AI initiative "AI Coffee with Scott Adams," expressed his commitment to continuing the project despite objections from the late cartoonist's family. Arrow, who has a personal connection to Adams' work, believes that the AI project aligns with Adams' own expressed wishes regarding his legacy. Growing up, Arrow was influenced by Adams' iconic "Dilbert" comic strips, often read to him by his father. This admiration evolved into a deep appreciation for Adams' podcast, where he frequently discussed his fascination with artificial intelligence. According to Arrow, Adams had voiced a desire to contribute to the world through AI after his passing, making multiple statements that suggested he wanted his likeness and works to be available for such purposes. Following Adams' cancer diagnosis, Arrow and his brother Zach began developing the AI project, ramping up their efforts after Adams' death. They started producing AI-generated podcasts that simulate what Adams might say about current events. While Arrow acknowledges the family’s grief and opposition, he insists that the project honors Adams' legacy based on the public declarations he made. Arrow emphasizes that he has sought to engage with Adams' family to discuss the project but faced challenges in communication, as they have not responded positively to his outreach. He respects their feelings but believes it is essential to honor what Adams had stated about his own legacy and intentions. The AI model used for the project is built on extensive training from Adams' own content, including podcast transcripts and public statements. Each episode, costing over $1,000 to produce, requires significant effort in rendering and lip-syncing, ensuring that the output aligns with the essence of Adams’ original voice. Arrow, who runs a venture capital firm focused on AI innovations, clarifies that the project is not about monetization but about preserving the thought and essence of a great mind. He acknowledges the mixed reactions from the public, noting that while some are uncomfortable with the concept, others find solace in the AI-generated content, stating it helps with the grieving process. The initiative aims to evolve continuously, incorporating feedback to refine the output further. Arrow believes that as long as there is a clear expression of intent from a public figure, it is vital to take those wishes seriously, especially when it comes to utilizing AI to honor their legacy.
