Valve’s Steam Deck “intermittently” out of stock as RAM shortage drags on

This month, Valve revealed that it is postponing the launch of its upcoming Steam Machine desktop and Steam Frame VR headset due to persistent memory and storage shortages affecting the PC market since late 2025. Unfortunately, these supply issues are also impacting the availability of existing products, including the popular Steam Deck. Valve has updated its Steam Deck page to inform customers that the device will be "out-of-stock intermittently in some regions due to memory and storage shortages." At present, none of the three available configurations of the Steam Deck are up for purchase, and even the certified refurbished versions are unavailable. While Valve has not yet indicated any plans for price increases, the 512GB OLED model remains priced at $549, and the 1TB version is listed at $649. However, the basic 256GB LCD model has been officially discontinued after selling out, effectively raising the starting price of the Steam Deck from $399 to $549. Back in December, Valve announced the halt of production on the LCD version, confirming it would not be restocked. As the Steam Deck's hardware reaches its four-year anniversary this month, the market has seen the introduction of faster devices featuring improved chips and higher-resolution displays. Nevertheless, many of these alternatives come at a steeper price compared to the OLED Deck's $549. When available, the Steam Deck continues to deliver impressive performance and specifications, making it a strong contender in the handheld gaming market.
