Valve has encountered significant challenges in finalizing the launch of its Steam Machine desktop PC and Steam Frame VR headset, initially announced in mid-November of last year. The company has refrained from disclosing any pricing or availability details for these products, citing the ongoing RAM and storage shortages impacting the market. The surge in demand from the AI sector has driven up memory prices, exacerbating the situation. These inflationary pressures have not only affected RAM but are also beginning to influence GPU prices and other devices reliant on memory chips. Valve has now officially acknowledged that it is not yet prepared to provide a timeline or price range for the Steam Machine and Steam Frame. Despite its intention to launch both devices, along with a new Steam Controller, within the first half of the year, Valve emphasizes that the volatility of RAM and storage pricing necessitates a reassessment of their launch plans. In a recent blog post, the company stated, “When we announced these products in November, we aimed to share specific pricing and launch dates by now. However, the memory and storage shortages have intensified, forcing us to revisit our shipping schedule and pricing strategies.”
