Steam Deck minus the screen: Valve announces new Steam Machine, Controller hardware

In a bold move set to reshape home gaming, Valve has announced the upcoming release of its Steam Machine and Steam Controller, designed to elevate gaming experiences directly from your living room. Slated for launch in early 2026, this new hardware aims to optimize the use of the Steam library for players, according to a recent press release from the company. The Steam Machine is powered by a robust semi-custom six-core AMD Zen 4 CPU, capable of reaching speeds of 4.8 GHz, paired with an AMD RDNA3 GPU featuring 28 compute units. The specifications reveal that the machine will include 16GB of DDR5 RAM along with an additional 8GB of dedicated DDR6 VRAM, promising impressive performance. Customers will have the option to choose between two configurations, offering either 512GB or a substantial 2TB of SSD storage. Although Valve has yet to disclose pricing details, the specifications suggest that the Steam Machine will deliver performance comparable to a mid-range desktop gaming PC from a few years ago. Valve boasts that this new device is over six times more powerful than the Steam Deck, capable of supporting advanced features such as ray tracing and 4K gaming at 60 frames per second using FSR upscaling technology. The Steam Machine sports a sleek black cubic design, measuring approximately 160 mm (around 6.30 inches) on each side, which makes it slightly larger than the classic Nintendo GameCube. The front panel of the device is equipped with two USB-A ports, an SD card slot for storage expansion, a power button, and a customizable LED bar that indicates system status during boot-up or updates. Additionally, the rear of the unit is dominated by a large fan vent and offers three more USB ports (including a USB-C), as well as HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4 outputs, ensuring connectivity for a range of peripherals and displays.
