Valve brings native Steam Link app to Apple’s Vision Pro

Valve has announced the introduction of its Steam Link app to Apple’s cutting-edge Vision Pro mixed reality headset. This development allows users to stream traditional games from their Steam library wirelessly, utilizing a nearby Mac or PC. It's essential to note that this service focuses on classic 2D games, such as those typically played on computer monitors or televisions, and does not currently support VR titles. However, this move could pave the way for potential VR gaming compatibility in the future, although Valve has yet to confirm any plans regarding SteamVR games on the Vision Pro. Previously, Valve had released Steam Link applications for various Apple devices including Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV, enabling users to connect controllers and play Steam games across their local network. This included games from not just Apple devices but also from Windows or Linux gaming PCs. While third-party solutions like ALVR have already enabled streaming on the Vision Pro, Valve's official app offers a more reliable and user-friendly option. For those eager to explore this new capability, registration is available through TestFlight, Apple’s platform for testing pre-release applications prior to their official App Store launch. According to Valve, the current iteration of the app supports streaming at resolutions up to 4K and features a dynamic display adjustment for panoramic mode. When the Vision Pro was first launched, we noted its limited connectivity options for external gaming and media devices, as well as restricted access to mixed reality content beyond Apple's ecosystem. Since that time, improvements have been made, though the experience still doesn’t always match the ease found in competing headsets.
