Valorant finally gets replays, but there’s a catch – Full breakdown of new patch

After years of clamoring from its dedicated player base, Valorant has finally rolled out a much-anticipated replay feature, a significant enhancement for the tactical shooter. This addition was confirmed by Riot Games as part of patch 11.06, which launched today exclusively for PC gamers. While the introduction of replays marks a noteworthy advancement, it comes with a notable restriction that has stirred disappointment among fans. Currently, only PC players can access the replay system, while console users will have to wait until November to enjoy this feature. The replay functionality is seamlessly integrated into the Valorant client, enabling players to download and view replays through the Match Details or Career pages. This feature supports various game modes, including Unrated, Competitive, Swiftplay, and Premier. Players will also have access to a range of tools to navigate through different moments of their matches. Notably, Riot has assured players that the new system will not hinder game performance, catering to a wide range of hardware capabilities. Despite the excitement surrounding this update, a significant drawback remains: players can only watch replays of matches they personally participated in. This limitation means that fans cannot review professional VCT matches, watch friends' gameplay for coaching insights, or share replay files with others. Currently, players must still rely on external recording software to share gameplay highlights, a restriction that some in the community have criticized as outdated. In contrast, other competitive titles, like Dota 2, allow players to download and analyze professional matches, which has been essential for player development and community interaction. Riot's current replay limitations seem to overlook an opportunity for deeper learning and coaching within Valorant's expanding esports scene. Additionally, patch 11.06 includes other updates and bug fixes. Riot reported a significant crackdown on cheating, with a recent ban wave eliminating 40,000 bots in the last six months. Issues with characters Yoru and Reyna, where they would reappear at their original locations after using their invisibility abilities, have also been addressed. A fix for console-specific weapon highlighting issues is expected in patch 11.07, along with a performance boost as the RawInputBuffer setting is now permanently enabled. Overall, while the introduction of the replay feature is a monumental step for Riot and the Valorant community, the current restrictions present challenges for players seeking to improve their skills. Nevertheless, after a five-year wait, players now have an in-game method to analyze their matches, potentially transforming how they approach gameplay and competitive performance.
