ChatGPT, Gemini AI, and Copilot chatbots are cleared for use in U.S. ‌Senate

The U.S. Senate has officially sanctioned the use of three prominent AI chatbots: OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google's Gemini, and Microsoft's Copilot. According to reports from The New York Times, these advanced tools will be integrated into Senate operations, allowing officials to streamline various tasks such as document drafting, research, summarization, and briefing preparations. This decision marks a significant shift, as it highlights the growing adoption of AI technologies not just in the private sector but also within governmental and military institutions. These AI-powered solutions are set to alleviate the burden of repetitive tasks and improve overall efficiency in legislative processes. Reports indicate that while Microsoft awaits final approval for its chatbot, both Google and OpenAI have not yet confirmed their respective integrations. The Department of Defense is also leveraging OpenAI's capabilities, having finalized a deal in February 2026 to utilize its AI models on classified networks. Moreover, Google recently introduced Agentic Designer as part of its offerings within GenAI.mil, enabling users to create custom AI agents capable of automating tasks such as meeting note-taking, action item generation, and project planning. In the midst of these advancements, Anthropic is challenging the Trump administration regarding its “supply-chain risk” designation, having filed a lawsuit over the matter. The tech community has rallied in support of Anthropic, with employees from various companies, including Google and OpenAI, expressing their solidarity through a formal letter endorsing the lawsuit.
