The U.S. government is reportedly exploring the possibility of acquiring a stake in semiconductor leader Intel, as per a Bloomberg report. This initiative aims to bolster Intel's manufacturing capabilities within the United States, particularly focusing on its long-awaited chip factory in Ohio. This development follows recent tensions between Intel and the Trump administration. Just days prior, President Donald Trump called for the resignation of Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan, citing potential conflicts of interest. Although Trump did not elaborate on his reasoning, it coincided with concerns raised by Republican Senator Tom Cotton regarding Tan's alleged connections to China. To address these concerns, Tan met with officials from the Trump administration on August 11, aiming to alleviate worries and discuss collaborative opportunities between Intel and the government. This meeting is believed to have triggered discussions about the U.S. potentially acquiring a direct stake in the company. Intel, however, has opted to remain tight-lipped about the negotiations. An Intel spokesperson stated, “Intel is deeply committed to supporting President Trump’s efforts to strengthen U.S. technology and manufacturing leadership. We look forward to continuing our work with the Trump Administration to advance these shared priorities, but we will not comment on rumors or speculation.”
