Hacktivists call out Trump by hacking and defacing US Army websites

Two websites operated by the U.S. Army have recently been hacked, displaying pro-Kurdish slogans and making pointed accusations against former President Donald Trump. This incident marks yet another breach involving federal government systems amid rising concerns about cybersecurity. According to security expert Ronald Lovelace, who spoke with Cyberscoop, the error pages on the Open Innovation Lab and the AI Integration Center websites were manipulated. When users attempted to access non-existent pages, they were met with messages branding Trump as a 'pedophile' and a 'thief.' These claims seem to reference ongoing legal matters involving the former president and his connections to the late Jeffrey Epstein. Additionally, the defaced pages included calls for a 'free Kurdistan' and mentioned Tom Barrack, the U.S. ambassador to Turkey. The hacking was first reported by Cyberscoop, and the Army swiftly removed the altered pages shortly after the breach was made public. While the U.S. Army has not disclosed how the hackers gained access to these pages, it's worth noting that the websites are built on WordPress and utilize various plugins, which can present vulnerabilities for cyberattacks. As of now, there is no indication that any sensitive data was compromised during this incident. The Army is currently investigating the breach, although a spokesperson for the Department of Defense has not provided any comments regarding the situation. Hacktivist groups often resort to website defacement to promote their political agendas, though such actions can lead to significant damage. Earlier this year, similar tactics were used against the Department of Homeland Security, where sensitive information was leaked regarding immigration enforcement contracts.
