One striking example is Canoo, which has since declared bankruptcy and was characterized by an enigmatic group of investors. Initially emerging from stealth mode in 2018, Canoo's funding sources were not transparent. The company’s ties to prominent Chinese and Taiwanese investors became apparent only through subsequent legal disputes. Among these investors was David Stern, whose background was largely shrouded in mystery. O’Kane noted that Stern’s connection to Prince Andrew raised eyebrows, suggesting a closer relationship with Epstein than previously understood. As O’Kane investigated further, he discovered that Stern had attempted to secure significant investments from Epstein, including efforts to entice him to back Faraday Future and Lucid Motors. Despite their discussions, Epstein ultimately did not invest in these ventures. However, O’Kane emphasized that this decade-long relationship between Stern and Epstein was marked by a relentless pursuit of financial gain, often overshadowing ethical considerations.
