The highly anticipated Made by Google 2025 event has officially taken place, making waves in the tech world ahead of Apple's upcoming hardware showcase. On Wednesday, Google unveiled its latest innovations, including the Pixel 10 series, a new foldable device, the Pixel Watch 4, an upgraded version of the budget-friendly A-Series earbuds, and groundbreaking generative AI advancements through Gemini. While Google previously shared several AI updates during its May developer conference, the Pixel 10 event showcased even more impressive features. In a playful YouTube promotion, Google seemed to take a jab at Apple, hinting at the tech giant’s unfulfilled promises regarding AI on the iPhone. This year's Gemini Live has seen enhancements, allowing users to engage with the AI using their camera. For example, you can share a photo of your room and receive interior design suggestions in real-time. The Pixel 10's camera received significant upgrades, including a feature dubbed “Camera Coach.” This innovative tool provides users with real-time photography advice, offering suggestions for optimal angles and lighting. Additionally, a new conversational photo editing capability allows users to instruct Gemini on adjustments, such as brightness enhancements, object removal, or background changes. The standard Pixel 10 model has undergone major changes, most notably the introduction of a dedicated telephoto lens—a feature that was exclusive to the Pro versions in previous models. Google teased the Pixel 10 ahead of Wednesday's launch, claiming the new 5x telephoto lens delivers exceptional zoom quality. The lineup features the new Tensor G5 processor, marking the dawn of the Gemini era, significantly boosting performance and energy efficiency compared to the Tensor G4. While the overall design of the phones remains similar to the Pixel 9 series, the display sizes are consistent, with the Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro boasting a 6.3-inch display and the Pixel 10 Pro XL featuring a larger 6.8-inch screen. The Pro models also promise enhanced camera and video quality, improved battery life, and faster charging capabilities, addressing the longevity issues previously noted when comparing Pixel devices with leading models from Apple and Samsung. A standout feature in the Pixel 10 lineup is the integration of magnetic technology through “PixelSnap,” Google's answer to MagSafe. This includes a new $40 charger that supports Qi2 wireless charging, a $50 phone case with a magnetic ring, and a $30 ring stand for hands-free use. Google's latest foldable device showcases a larger cover display of approximately 6.4 inches and an 8-inch main screen, with enhanced hinge strength and slimmer bezels for a modern look. It also receives an IP68 rating, a first for Google’s foldable devices, ensuring protection against dust and water—an upgrade from the dust protection lacking in the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Like its counterparts, the foldable is equipped with the new G5 chip and the latest Gemini AI features, with camera enhancements that may include a 48-megapixel ultra-wide lens and a telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom. Improved battery life is also a welcome addition. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is priced at $1,799 and is available in Moonstone and Jade hues. In the wearable tech segment, the Pixel Watch 4 boasts a thicker design, longer battery life, and reduced bezels, along with its own AI features that enable users to access Gemini with a simple wrist lift. The Pixel Buds 2a have also received significant upgrades, now featuring active noise cancellation and new color options: Hazel and Iris. The Pixel Buds Pro 2 introduce a Gemini capability for answering calls with gestures, available in a fresh Moonstone color. This event has marked a pivotal moment for Google, setting the stage for the future of its devices and AI technology.
